Simon Says, "Shapes!" - Geometry

 Simon Says, "Shapes!"

Simon Says, "Shapes!" is an interactive game for the whole class. This brief game can be used as a warm-up for a geometry lesson or integrated as part of a lesson. This is a play on a well known game, "Simon Says," where the teacher will be in the front of the room having kids draw the geometry term that the teacher states on their whiteboard. Some terms to use can be:

  • Right angle
  • Obtuse angle
  • acute angle
  • Rhombus
  • Equilateral triangle
  • Isosceles triangle
  • Parallelogram
  • Polygon
  • Rectangle
  • Square
  • Ray
  • Line with two points
  • Parallel lines
  • Perpendicular lines

This game is a great way to engage students and get them thinking about geometry. I think it can be best utilized to extend a geometry lesson and review geometry terms.

I really like this game because it does not take up too much time and it could help students who are struggling remembering the various geometry terms.

  1. Hi Hannah! I enjoyed reading your post. I teach 2nd grade and when I taught the concept of Geometry to my students, many of them struggled. I think a game such as this Geometry game would really help my students learn their shapes in Geometry. This sounds like a very fun game, especially for young students. I definitely think that it will have students engaged in the topic of Geometry. Almost every child should already know what the game Simon Says is, so adding the aspect of Geometry to it sounds very cool. It sounds like a game that would be very fun for all students.-Victoria Yudenfriend
